Church History

The original Christ Church in Pill was built in 1861. Pill was established as a separate Parish from Easton in Gordano, but burial rights still remained at St. George, Easton in Gordano.

The Church was destroyed by incendiary bombs in 1941 and the present Church was rebuilt on its original foundations in 1957. Parish boundaries were revised in 1959 to include new housing estates in Westward Drive, Brookside and Crockerne Drive.

Pill was incorporated into an United Benefice with the other Church of England Churches at Easton in Gordano and Portbury in the 1980's and the current Rector; Ruth Legg, has pastoral care for all three.

In 1995, Christ Church formalised Ecumenical links with with the Methodist and Baptist Churches in Pill in the form of a Local Ecumenical Partnership or Covenant.

The Church was developed as a building by forming a 'social area' at the rear of the Church known as the 'Church Room'. A sound system has been installed throughout. The new facilities were opened in June 1998, which allows the Church to host coffee mornings, mini sales, socialising after Services and other events.
